Bonded neodymium magnets are made by mixing neodymium magnetic powder with a non-magnetic polymer binder(usually a rubber or plastic). The manufacturing of bonded neodymium magnets consists of magnet powder (95% volume), an adhesive (3%) and additives (2%). Bonded neodymium magnets are also known of bonded NdFeb magnets or plastic bonded magnets. These magnets are known for their high dimensional accuracy and complex shapes crafts. For a more flexible alternative to sintered neodymium, consider using bonded neodymium magnets for your application.
Manufactuering Process
Bonded NdFeB magnets are either compression or injection moulded to net shape, high tolerances are achieved, require no further machining. Than heating the part or choose to make the surface treatments. The bonded NdFeB magnets have high mechanical strength and can be formed at one time with other supporting components during forming. So it can easily be machined to vary shapes, the dimensions typically vary small to 002” or better.
Surface Treatment
Bonded neodymium magnets are generally supplied uncoated as the plastic binder protects the NdFeb alloy from corrosion. However, coatings can be applied when necessary such as Black Epoxy Spray or Parylene, or electroless nickel plating is also used to prevent corrosion.
Magnetic Orientation
Multiple Poles | Skewed Magnetization | Single Pole |
Bonded Neodymium magnets can be magnetized into complex patterns with multiple poles. Bonded and Injection Moulded Neo is Isotropic so, multipole magnetisation available, including skew angled poles.
Features
Bonded neodymium magnets magnetism much weaker than sintered neodymium magnets, bonded neodymium magnets give greater flexibility in terms of shapes that can be made. They are also lighter than Samarium Cobalt magnets, and support a lower acceptable temperature and low coercivity. Nevertheless, bonded Neodymium magnets offer the excellent value for applications that require small size and high precision charactors, which greatly reduce the volume and weight of the motors.
Bonded neodymium magnets are best suited to higher volume applications, although because of their nature compression bonded magnets can be easily machined – allowing low volume production to attained when multipole and any direction of magnetization is necessary. Bonded neodymium magnets offer a cost-effective use of magnet material, high performance, low electrical conductivity, and high tolerances.
Advantages
- Geometric precision
- Variety of magnetic configuration
- Homogeneous distribution of magnetic field
- Design and assembly simplification
- Precision of motor performances
- Cost efficiency
- Huge marketing potential
Applications
Bonded neodymium magnets are widely used in small motors and metering machinery, mobile phones, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM drive motors, hard disk spindle motors HDD, other micro special DC motors and automated instruments and and other fields. Their annual growth rate has reached 35%. They are also used in magnetic bearings, magnetic couplings, and magnetic clutches.
