Bonded vs Sintered neodymium magnets

Neodymium magnets also known as the NdFeB magnets, which is  a kind of rare earth permanent magnet. Neodymium magnets can be divided into sintered neodymium magnets and bonded neodymium magnets base on the manufacturing process.  Also leads their property have big differences in the applications.

Process Difference

Bonded neodymium iron boron is actually formed by injection molding or compressing molding process, and sintered neodymium iron boron magnets are  made by powder metallurgy process.

Bonded Neodymium magnets

Bonded neodymium magnets have high dimensional accuracy, can be made into magnetic components with relatively complex shapes, and have the characteristics of one-time compressing or injection molding and multi-polar orientation. The bonded neodymium magnets have high mechanical strength and can be formed at one time with other supporting components during forming. With the help of the bonded NdFeB magnets, people can greatly reduce the size and weight of the motor.

Sintered Neodymium magnet

The sintered neodymium magnet is made by powder metallurgy process. First, the smelted alloy needs to be powdered and pressed into a compact in a magnetic field, and then the compact is sintered in inert gas or vacuum to achieve densification.

The sintered neodymium Magnet has extremely high magnetic energy product and coercive force, and the advantages of high energy density make iron boron permanent magnet materials widely used in modern industry and electronic technology,

Property Difference

1. Bonded neodymium magnet has strong oxidation resistance and does not require surface treatment. Sintered NdFeB magnets are easy to oxidize so normally make the zinc or nickel  surface treatment.

2. Bonded neodymium magnets can be magnetized into complex patterns with multiple poles. Sintered magnets are typically anisotropic, which means they have a preference for the direction of their magnetic field. Such as axial magnetization, radial magnetization etc,.

3. Bonded neodymium magnets much weaker than sintered neodymium magnets. Sintered NdFeB, neodymium magnets are the most powerful magnets as known. Bonded neodymium magnets offer excellent value for applications that require a smaller magnet or utilize radial rings.
